An electronic cigarette is a battery-powered device which heats an e-liquid to produce a vapor that the user inhale. It consists mainly of a battery, a atomizer and a resistance. Unlike a cigarette traditional, it does not burn tobacco and does not produce tar nor carbon monoxide.

Resistance wears out over time and with repeated use, thus influencing the quality of the vapor and the taste. A worn resistance can produce a burnt taste and reduce the amount of steam delivered.
E-liquid is the fluid used in electronic cigarettes to create steam. It is mainly composed of propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), food flavorings and possibly nicotine.
